Book reviews as a service 4

Happy new year to everybody for 2022, and I hope you all stay safe.

Like all blog people in the 2010, I have been trying to revive this site for a while. But with social media addictions, it’s so easy to consume and doomscroll and not do anything. [1]Also to be ashamed of having ideas and written unprofessional/unfair but funny/undocumented/unaware/unexperimented rants in the past: I have deleted my old blogs with travels and funky adventures … Continue reading

Well, “not do anything” is not entirely true, because while I was on Facebook, I was so sad and angry all the time at the end. So I had to quit. Now I just doomscroll on reddit in the hope of brighter news, and I casually doomscroll on one of my several twitter accounts in the hope of finding THE advice that would change my life.

But here we are, there have not been any happy news around for a while and my life still is the same. Great.

So, this year I have decided to be less of a consumer and more of a producer. Yes, new year resolution. Or more like new year’s goal. Also, this space is mine, and I am back to claim it. With swear words if I need.

I have decided to write book reviews. Still with swear words, if I need.

I have been reading tons of books since forever and I think I could write interesting things about them. Funny comments and unexpected side notes and certainly not as good as any real critics but it would be my own production. The other idea with this book reviewing, is sharing and externalise ideas. Articulate what is going on, show the hidden layers, clarify what is not said and/or what is triggered as thoughts. [2]I kind of do this professionally now, but it always remains technical.

By focusing on books, I am purposefully avoiding the general topics everybody is talking about, namely: covid, imminent collapse of biodiversity, devastation of global warming, universal corruption of the elites, the best recipes for tomato-mozzarella and extreme political polarisation. I won’t go there, I will stay on the safe side. Also, everything has been said.

My plan is to write one review per month. I already have 3 books in the pipeline. Reviews and books are going to be in English and in French. I will not try in Portuguese or even Japanese. I want to commit to at least 500 words, but I know I will try to game the numbers if I do.

I also want to be free to have controversial opinions and style. It is so difficult these days. Everybody has to look so professional and employable. So the tone of this site/blog is probably going to change. And impact my career? We’ll see.

So if you have any books to recommend, please please, dear friends, in comments, get crazy.

Until next time,

Fab

And if we recommend books about covid, imminent collapse of biodiversity, devastation of global warming, universal corruption of the elites, the best recipes for tomato-mozzarella and extreme political polarisation?

Happy to see you here Ntonio! Not happy to see that you are still trolling the elders.

I wish you could find a book with all these topics at the same time.
